i'm maureen umeh. the fire burned hot and fast for most of the family there was a safe way out. now they are worried about a teenage boy that couldn't get out in time. that fire broke out before dawn. matt ackland joins us live with the details. >> reporter: this is a heartbreaker. it was around 3:00 this morning. everyone was sleeping. a total of seven people were inside when something sparked a fire. everyone got out of the home except a 17-year-old boy who is currently in washington hospital center's unit. take a look at the flames shooting out of the roof of this house. we are told it took 30 firefighters from prince george county about 20 minutes to put the fire out. as they battled the flames, paramedics did all they could to comfort dean cavanaugh who was seriously burned. >> i have a couch here. >> reporter: the mother says she was sleeping downstairs when she heard a loud noise. >> i was awakened by a loud boom noise. when i got up, my son's room was on fire. >> reporter: seven people inside the home rushed to get out. devon could hear his brother cry out for help from
